YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - HBK CPAs & Consultants (HBK) is a top employer in the Buckeye state - again.
The Ohio Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) State Council named HBK among the 2018 winners of its Best Employers in Ohio award. This is the ninth consecutive year HBK has made the list, having moved up a spot from seventh in 2017 to sixth this year in the Large Employer category.
"Though we’ve consistently earned this honor, we don’t assume it from year to year," said David J. Blasko, CPA and Principal-in-Charge of HBK’s northeastern Ohio region, which spans from Youngstown to Alliance. "The fact that we have made the list 11 out of the 12 years we have been nominated shows our commitment to employee engagement. It’s one of the reasons we’re able to establish such great relationships with our clients."
“Clearly the credit goes to our team; we know our greatest resource is our people,” said Michelle Roseberry, CPA, CGMA, CIT and Principal-in-Charge of HBK’s office in Columbus.
Blasko said HBK’s involvement with initiatives such as the Anticipatory Organization (AO) Learning System help build team confidence, professionalism and gold standards for client service.
“We’re now in stage two of the AO program, a training process for our team to enhance their skills for spotting industry trends, identifying business opportunities and predicting customer needs. It empowers them to do and become their best both professionally and personally,” he said.
About Best Employers
The annual list of the Best Employers in Ohio was created by the Ohio SHRM State Council and Best Companies Group. The selections are conducted through a statewide survey and awards process. This year’s list of contenders was comprised of more than three dozen companies from various industries and falling under the classification of one of two categories: Small/Medium Employer (15 – 249 U.S. employees) and Large Employer (250 or more U.S. employees).
The Selection Process
Winners are selected based on the results of a two-part survey process reviewing workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, demographics, and employee feedback. To be eligible, employers must:
- Be a for-profit, not-for-profit business or government entity
- Be a publicly or privately-held business
- Operate a facility in the state of Ohio
- Employ at least 15 staff members in an Ohio office location
- Have operated an Ohio business for a minimum of one year
HBK was founded in Youngstown, Ohio in 1949, and retains its corporate headquarters here. The company combined four of its Mahoning Valley Ohio area offices into one central location in 2014. Along with its location in Youngstown, HBK’s other Ohio offices include Alliance, and, most recently, Columbus. The lattermost resulted from the merger with the former Norman, Jones, Enlow & Co. in October 2015. HBK employs a team of more than 500 from office locations in four states, including Pennsylvania, Florida, and New Jersey. In total, 24 of HBK’s 65 Principals are based in Ohio.
