Kevin is a Senior Director in the Long Island, New York office of HBK. He joined HBK in November 2023 with the merger of Zapken & Loeb, LLP, where he was a tax partner. He helps a wide range of clients with their tax planning and tax compliance and has more than 35 years of experience in public accounting. He works closely with clients and their professional teams, ensuring that services and advice are fully coordinated for informed decision-making.
He has worked extensively with high-net-worth individuals and their families, business executives, and closely held businesses on their federal, state, local, interstate, and international income, estate, and sales tax issues. Kevin’s international tax experience includes consulting on the U.S. taxation of foreign nationals working in the U.S. He delivers creative planning solutions in the areas of estate and gift, retirement, and income tax planning.
Kevin also guides clients through tax controversies at every level, providing comfort to clients in high-stress situations with his practical, calm, and even-keeled approach. He successfully has represented clients before the IRS and other taxing authorities on personal and business tax matters. His specialized experience in state and local tax matters includes residency audits.
Kevin’s areas of focus include real estate and construction, high-net-worth individuals, manufacturing and distribution, professional service firms, apparel, nonprofits, and sports and entertainment. He has been a featured speaker at tax conferences, including Tax and Estate Planning Issues for U.S. Residents and the Nonresident Aliens and the Immigration Law Foundation’s Annual Conference, and has articles on tax issues published by various professional publications. He has served on the IRS Relations Committee and the Sports and Entertainment Committee of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
