HBK CPAs & Consultants welcomes Michael L. Kohner, CPA, AEP®, CAP®, CFP® as Principal-in-Charge of its newest office in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Michael has extensive experience in serving the complex needs of high net worth individuals and their companies. He has more than 30 years of industry experience consulting with clients on issues such as federal and state income tax planning; preparation or review of income tax provisions, analysis, and determination of level of sustainability of uncertain tax positions; deal structuring; mergers and acquisitions; family wealth and charitable gift planning.
Before joining HBK, Michael was the Office Managing Director of the Andersen Tax Florida practice, coordinating the activities of tax, accounting, financial planning and valuation professionals, and serving as the firm-wide resource on corporate technical advisory matters. He also was the firm’s expert on the tax ramifications related to corporate aircraft and the use of yachts.
Michael graduated from the University of Florida (UF) with a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Accounting. He has been a frequent speaker at UF, as well as at the Florida Institute of CPAs, the Palm Beach County Estate Planning Council and the Planned Giving Council.
Michael is the author of several articles on the tax ramifications of both the personal use of corporate aircraft and various charitable giving strategies. His community commitments include involvement the University of Florida Fisher School of Accounting - Advisory Board; University of Florida Foundation - Leadership Gifts Council; Palm Beach County Economic Council – Treasurer; Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County – Investment Committee, Past-Treasurer, and Professional Advisors Committee, Past-Chair; Palm Beach Philanthropy Tank, Co-Founder; and Advisors for Philanthropic Impact, President.
Michael joins the HBK offices in Stuart, Naples, Ft. Myers and Sarasota, in serving valued HBK clients in the South Florida region.
