New Jersey’s Division of Taxation is implementing a major upgrade to its online tax filing system this spring. This change affects filing deadlines, payment processing, and how you’ll access your tax information moving forward.
Key Dates You Need to Know
- April 26, 2025: Current online tax system will be UNAVAILABLE for all filings and payments
- May 1-30, 2025: Automatic 30-day extensions granted for all Phase 1 returns and payments
- May 14, 2025: New tax portal launches; account setup begins
- June 30, 2025: Extended deadline for all Phase 1 tax filings and payments

- Cannabis Retail Sales Tax
- Sales and Use Tax
- Business Use Tax
- Atlantic City Luxury Tax
- Cape May County Tourism Tax
- Hotel/Motel Occupancy Fee and Tax
- Meadowlands Regional Hotel Use Assessment
- Sports and Entertainment Facility Tax

What You’ll Need to Set Up Your New Account
- Your Taxpayer ID number
- Line 1 from your most recently filed tax return
- Your four-digit PIN
Without these three items, you will not be able to establish your account on the new portal when it launches on May 14.
Prepare Now: Your Action Plan
- Mark your calendar with the system downtime date
- Gather your Taxpayer ID, recent return, and PIN
- Plan ahead if you normally file during late April/early May
- Bookmark the NJ Division of Taxation Self-Service Portal
- Check back on May 14 for new user guides and portal access
