On September 2, 2024, the TechCred application reopens funding. This window closes on September 30, 2024, at 3:00 pm, allowing Ohio manufacturers another opportunity to secure reimbursement for valuable employee training during this period.

About TechCred:

In 2019, TechCred was created and funded in the state budget under House Bill 2. This bill allowed employers to be reimbursed for costs associated with training their employees in manufacturing and technological skills. As much as $30,000 in reimbursement is available to an Ohio employer in each round of funding.

Employers can choose a training provider that best fits the skills they require for their employees. Universities, community colleges, Ohio technical centers, and private training providers are all eligible options to obtain credentials.

Application Process:

If your business employs Ohio residents, you are eligible to participate regardless of industry or number of employees. Employers should start by applying for an OH|ID at https://supplier.ohio.gov. Here, a supplier ID number is assigned, allowing you to begin the TechCred application.

With this supplier ID, businesses can visit techcred.ohio.gov to view the TechCred application.

Applicants will be required to submit the following:

  • contact information
  • federal tax ID number
  • credential information such as the credential name, training cost, and training provider
  • the requested reimbursement amount
  • the number of employees who will earn the credential
  • the average wage of employees both before and after earning the credential

A list of credentials currently eligible for reimbursement can be found at https://techcred.ohio.gov/about/credential-list. However, employers may also apply for credentials not found on this list at the same link using “Credential Not Listed”. With the submission of a syllabus, list of skills taught, and other attributes of the course in question, an employer may submit a new credential for reimbursement.

Reimbursement:

Once the course is approved, employees have 12 months from the award date to complete their certification(s). Employers can then submit proof of credential completion and cost documentation at techcred.ohio.gov to obtain up to $2,000 per credential. Note that requests for reimbursement should be submitted no more than once a month during the grant period, and no later than six weeks after the credential is obtained. Additionally, employers should provide a status update every six months to reflect whether credential projects are in-process, completed, or cancelled.
