Updated October 2024.

On the first Friday of each October, Manufacturing Day is celebrated. Formed by The Manufacturing Institute in partnership with the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, the day celebrates the exciting job opportunities the industry can offer, especially due to the industry’s modernization and innovation. While many think of manufacturing as dirty, loud, and highly laborious, the industry is revitalizing with automation and technology to offer exciting career opportunities.

As many organizations and manufacturers celebrate this day, some will open their doors to the community. Others will celebrate with virtual tours or by releasing information that help celebrate those organizations’ successes. No matter how it is celebrated, it is important to consider the many benefits manufacturing brings to communities nationwide. For instance:

  • The US is the world’s second-largest manufacturer, with nearly 700,000 manufacturers in the country.
  • According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 12 million people are employed by manufacturers in the United States.
  • The National Association of Manufacturing notes that manufacturers contribute $2.3 trillion to the US economy annually.
  • Transportation, food, and fabricated metal are three of the top job producers within manufacturing

HBK Manufacturing Solutions is proud to support manufacturers and related organizations over our seventy five year history. Our roots in the Rust Belt have given us unique insight into the evolution of manufacturing operations, processes, and technologies. We honor and support all manufacturers in our community and look forward to witnessing and supporting the continued innovation, growth, and evolution of the industry.

Manufacturing Day, held on the first Friday of October, celebrates manufacturing’s modernization and rapidly changing technologies. Manufacturers no longer represent dirty, loud, highly labor intensive environments; instead, they can offer career opportunities to those interested in new technologies, ongoing innovation, and the development of in-demand skills.

To celebrate Manufacturing Day, manufacturers across the country open their doors to students and community members seeking to learn more about the in-demand jobs available. With many manufacturers currently struggling to find laborers, these events are more critical than ever. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that manufacturing employment rose by over 120,000 positions during the summer months of 2021, and the industry continues to add jobs. This means that attracting new employees to the industry is a must. Manufacturing Day allows manufacturers to show their unique capabilities and educate youth about the exciting future of the industry.

HBK Manufacturing Solutions is taking this special day to recognize the many manufacturers with whom we have worked or connected in our 70-plus year history. Our roots in the Rust Belt and as a past center of steel production have given us unique insight into the evolution of manufacturing operations, processes, and technologies. We honor and support all manufacturers in our community and look forward to witnessing and supporting the innovation, growth, and evolution of the industry.

Celebrating Manufacturing Day 2020

Manufacturers often struggle with attracting talent to an industry that may not seem attractive to those entering the job market. Since 2011, manufacturers now have a special day to showcase the innovation and processes that are unique to their industry.

Manufacturing Day, also known as MFG Day, celebrates manufacturing businesses and strives to create interest in manufacturing careers. Many manufacturers open their doors to the public or host events to allow young adults or other potential job seekers the opportunity to see the excitement that comes with manufacturing. Among the topics discussed include innovative technologies such as additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and robotics that have become commonplace in many manufacturing environments. In addition, this allows manufacturers to dispel myths about working in the industry, such as that manufacturing is not clean, unsafe, or manual labor-intensive.

As Manufacturing Day is held on the first Friday of October each year, the 2020 event will be held this Friday, October 2. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many manufacturers are opting out of in-person events and replacing them with virtual events. However, there are still many opportunities to celebrate your business, its future, and Manufacturing Day in general. Consider the following:

  • Consider holding a webinar to discuss your business’s story including how your manufacturing operation has evolved throughout your company’s history.
  • Display a virtual plant tour on your website, highlighting your employees or new technologies.
  • Use social media to start a conversation about manufacturing and the importance to your community.

Connect with other manufacturers, industry groups, or supporters of your industry.

  • Some industry groups may be hosting events where you can participate.
  • Thank your employees for their ongoing contributions to your organization.

From our team at HBK Manufacturing Solutions, we wish each of you a Happy Manufacturing Day!
