On the first Friday of each October, Manufacturing Day is celebrated. Formed by The Manufacturing Institute in partnership with the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, the day celebrates the exciting job opportunities the industry can offer, especially due to the industry’s modernization and innovation. While many think of manufacturing as dirty, loud, and highly laborious, the industry is revitalizing with automation and technology to offer exciting career opportunities.

As many organizations and manufacturers celebrate this day, some will open their doors to the community. Others will celebrate with virtual tours or by releasing information that help celebrate those organizations’ successes. No matter how it is celebrated, it is important to consider the many benefits manufacturing brings to communities nationwide. For instance:

  • The US is the world’s third largest manufacturer, with over 700,000 manufacturers in the country.
  • According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 12.8 million people are employed by manufacturers in the United States.
  • The National Association of Manufacturing notes that manufacturers contribute $2.77 trillion to the US economy annually, based on data from the first quarter of this year.
  • Transportation, food. and fabricated metal are three of the top job producers within manufacturing.
